Let us take you on a 4-day adventure around Iceland via famous Road #1. Heading East from Reykjavík you will fully encircle Iceland stopping along the way to admire beauty of the island and take part in various activities.
On the first day of the tour, you will follow the South Coast through the glacier lands by Eyjafjallajökull volcano and Vatnajökull glacier, visit the amazing waterfalls Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss and the secret Gljufrabui, as well as the Black beach of Reynisfjara before continuing all the way to the Skaftafell National Park, where in the summer time (April-October) you can try yourself and hike on the glacier.
On the following day, you’ll visit iconic Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach. Next on the itinerary is mountain Vestrahorn - the most instagrammable one in Iceland and scenic drive through the eastern fjords, an area known for their abundance of reindeer’s, puffins and deep fjords with huge mountains. During summer time (April-October) you will have a chance to explore stunning Studlagil canyon with the biggest basalt columns collection in Iceland, while during winter time (November-March) you can explore natural Blue Ice Cave laying underneath Vatnajokull - the biggest glacier in Europe. This day ends up in Egilsstadir, the capital of East Iceland. There you can take a dip in unique geothermal floating pools while enjoying the view over Urridavatn lake.
During day 3 we will continue through moon-alike landscapes located in the North. Drive along Mývatn Lake and North Coast with stops at the most powerful waterfall in Europe called Dettifoss, nearby Selfoss waterfall, Hverir Geothermal Fields and Grjotagja Geothermal Cave just to name a few. This area is known for its high geothermal activity, numerous hot springs and mud lakes. There you will go for good hikes and visit Green lagoon for a relaxing time in the natural baths (optional). Last stop is at waterfalls of Gods – Godafoss.
Last day of this tour starts with exploring Akureyri. Enjoy the atmosphere of this remote town laying in the deep fjord, with charming buildings and famous church dominating over the city. Once leaving the urban area we will head North to the village called Dalvik to embark the boat searching for whales (optional). This area is known for its unusually high presence of many representatives of these mammals. Then it is time to jump on the bus again and turn direction to Reykjavik. Along the way we will visit the rock Hvitserkur, the Icelandic Seal Center near Hvammstangi and Kolugljufur Canyon.
It is the perfect tour for those who want to explore and see the best attractions of Iceland and experience an adventure without having to worry themselves about getting around and would rather relax and watch the scenery than focus on the road.
Taking a ring road tour gives you also a possibility to spot the most unique spectacle of mother nature – Northern Lights dancing above the sky. Northern Lights season starts in late September and usually lasts until the end of March. Our guide will inform you about the possibilities to see them if they appear during the tour.
